Day 319 Bible Study Luke 24; John 20-21

Day 319 Bible Study Luke 24; John 20-21

Welcome to Day 319! Two grieving friends walk a dusty road with a stranger who explains the whole Bible to them, not realizing it’s Jesus Himself. A doubting disciple finally gets the proof he needed. And over a charcoal breakfast on a beach, Jesus restores a friendship that failure almost destroyed. Luke and John close out the Gospels with some of the most personal resurrection appearances in Scripture.

Luke 24; John 20-21: Recognized, Restored, and Sent

Two disciples walk the road to Emmaus, heartbroken and confused, and a stranger joins them, walking them through Moses and all the Prophets, explaining how the Scriptures pointed to a suffering, then glorified, Messiah all along. It isn’t until He breaks bread with them at dinner that their eyes are opened. They recognize Jesus, and He vanishes. Meanwhile, at the tomb, Mary Magdalene is weeping outside, assuming someone has stolen the body, until Jesus says one word, her name, and everything changes. When Thomas refuses to believe unless he can touch the wounds himself, Jesus doesn’t scold him. He shows up a week later and holds out His hands: “Do not disbelieve, but believe.” Thomas’s response becomes one of the clearest confessions in the whole Bible: “My Lord and my God!”

John adds one more story that feels almost too personal to be in Scripture. Jesus cooks breakfast for His disciples on a beach, and then turns to Peter, the one who denied Him three times, and asks him three times, “Do you love me?” Each time Peter answers yes, Jesus gives him a job: “Feed my sheep.” It’s not a guilt trip. It’s a restoration, three declarations of love to match three denials, a complete undoing of Peter’s worst night. Luke closes his Gospel with Jesus leading the disciples out, blessing them, and ascending into heaven while they worship Him with great joy, waiting for the promise still to come.

  • God’s Character: He Opens Blind Eyes to See Him. The Emmaus disciples walked with Jesus for miles without recognizing Him until He chose to reveal Himself (Luke 24:30-31).
  • God’s Desire: Gentle Restoration, Not Shame. Jesus doesn’t scold Thomas’s doubt or shame Peter’s denial. He meets both men exactly where they are and rebuilds from there (John 20:27, 21:15-17).
  • God’s Promise: Three Declarations to Undo Three Denials. Peter’s restoration shows that no failure is too total for God to rebuild completely (John 21:15-19).
  • Glimpse of Jesus: The Suffering Messiah All Scripture Pointed To. On the Emmaus road, Jesus shows two grieving friends that His death and resurrection were the plan all along, written into Moses and the Prophets from the start (Luke 24:27).

The Heartbeat:

God is the patient Restorer who opens blind eyes to see Him, meets doubt and failure without shame, and rebuilds what feels completely broken, three declarations at a time.

Heart Check:

  • The disciples on the Emmaus road walked with Jesus without even recognizing Him. Is there a way God has been present in a hard season of your life that you’re only now able to see looking back?
  • Jesus restored Peter with three questions that matched his three denials instead of ignoring what happened. Is there a failure in your own story you need to let God actually restore instead of just moving past?

Heart Dive 365 uses the same Bible reading plan across multiple years, but each year offers a different teaching style and pace. Choose the phase that fits where you are right now.

✨ One Hub. Everything You Need. Every Daily Blog Post includes all three phases on this single page—videos, audio, PDFs, study notes—so you never have to leave to find what you're looking for. (This comprehensive resource is free thanks to our Heartkeepers community.)

Where are the notes?

Understanding Our Terminology

What are "Notes"? We use this word for three different types of study materials:

  • Bible Journaling Pages: PDF copies of Kanoe and Holly's Bible pages with their personal journaling alongside Scripture. Kanoe's notes are available for the entire Bonus Content year and most of Phase One. On days Kanoe took a full Sabbath, Holly's notes cover those passages instead.
  • Heart Check PDFs: Chapter summaries, conversational commentary, reflection questions, Deep Dive questions, and guided closing prayers.
  • Heartbeat of God PDFs: Deep theological breakdowns exploring God's character, attributes, and desires through Scripture.
  • Heart Work PDFs: Practical discipleship challenges and application exercises for personal growth or small group discussion.

One More Thing: All of this was created at significant cost, but is now available completely free thanks to our Heartkeeper community.

Congratulations on making it this far with us!

We hope you've enjoyed the Bonus Year with Kanoe and Phase One of Heart Dive 365.

If you're looking for Phase 2, aka The Heartbeat of God, or Phase 3 Heart Work PDFs, we're currently doing a third walk through the Bible at a more sustainable pace. We're currently taking a sabbatical, so we can honor both the season of life we're in and the depth these passages deserve.

Phase 2 and Phase 3 will make their way to the Hub as we complete them. This could take a few weeks or a few years, and we're okay with that. Good things take time.
