Welcome to Day 267. Everything is about to reverse. The man who built a gallows to hang his enemy will hang on it himself. The man who was scheduled to be publicly humiliated will instead be publicly honored. The people who were marked for extermination will instead triumph. God does not just rescue His people — He turns the entire story around.

Esther 6-10: The Great Reversal, the Counter-Decree, and the God Behind Every Coincidence
Chapter 6 is one of the great turning points in Scripture, and it turns on an insomniac king. The night before Haman plans to ask for Mordecai’s execution, King Xerxes cannot sleep and has the royal records read to him. The record that comes up is Mordecai’s report of the assassination plot — the one that was never rewarded. The next morning Haman arrives early to request Mordecai’s death, and instead finds himself asking the king what should be done for the man the king delights to honor — not realizing the king means Mordecai. Then Haman leads Mordecai through the streets on a royal horse proclaiming his honor. The Holman Bible Handbook notes that the unexpected reversals throughout Esther demonstrate how God superintended the Jews’ deliverance — and chapter 6 is the clearest example. What appears to be a sleepless night is divine orchestration.
Haman is exposed at Esther’s banquet, falls on her couch in desperation, and is condemned by the king for assaulting the queen. He is hanged on the seventy-five-foot gallows he built for Mordecai. A counter-decree allows the Jewish people to defend themselves and strike back against those who attack them. The book ends with Mordecai honored, Esther’s courage celebrated, and the feast of Purim established — an annual reminder that what the enemy meant for extermination became a story of deliverance. As the NIV Bible Speaks Today notes, Esther asks us to ponder how we continue to see God’s saving work in the world, and what part we can play in that ongoing story.
- God’s Character — God is the Sovereign Lord Who Turns Plots Into Platforms and Gallows Into Justice: God reversed every scheme Haman built — the gallows, the humiliation, the decree — demonstrating that no plot against His people can ultimately prevail (Esther 7:10; 9:1).
- God’s Desire — God Desires That Power Be Used for Protection of the Vulnerable: God contrasts Mordecai and Haman directly — Haman used power to destroy, Mordecai used authority to help his people. God desires that those with influence protect rather than exploit (Holman Bible Handbook).
- God’s Promise — God Promises That Man’s Extremity Is His Opportunity: The Jews faced a decree of total annihilation with no human solution — and God turned it entirely around. God’s saving purpose is greater than any situation looks at its worst (Rod Mattoon, Treasures from Esther).
- Glimpse of Jesus — God’s Pattern of Substitution Fulfilled Perfectly in Christ: Haman hung on the gallows he built for Mordecai — judgment rebounding on the one who deserved it. Jesus absorbed the judgment we deserved, transforming our death sentence into deliverance, and now lives to intercede for us (Heb. 7:25; Rom. 8:34).

God did not just rescue His people from the plot — He reversed the entire story, because reversal is what He does with every scheme the enemy builds against His own.

What are "Notes"? We use this word for three different types of study materials:
- Bible Journaling Pages: PDF copies of Kanoe and Holly's Bible pages with their personal journaling alongside Scripture. Kanoe's notes are available for the entire Bonus Content year and most of Phase One. On days Kanoe took a full Sabbath, Holly's notes cover those passages instead.
- Heart Check PDFs: Chapter summaries, conversational commentary, reflection questions, Deep Dive questions, and guided closing prayers.
- Heartbeat of God PDFs: Deep theological breakdowns exploring God's character, attributes, and desires through Scripture.
- Heart Work PDFs: Practical discipleship challenges and application exercises for personal growth or small group discussion.
