Day 330 Bible Study Acts 17
Day 330 Bible Study Acts 17
Welcome to Day 330! Paul takes the gospel from a synagogue argument in Thessalonica to a crowd of eager Bible students in Berea to a room full of Greek philosophers on Mars Hill in Athens. Acts 17 shows us one missionary adjusting his approach for three totally different audiences without ever changing his message.

Acts 17: Reasoning, Searching, and an Unknown God
In Thessalonica, Paul reasons from the Scriptures for three Sabbaths, explaining that the Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead, and that Jesus is that Christ. Some believe, but jealous opponents stir up a mob and run Paul and Silas out of town. In Berea, things go differently. Luke says the Bereans were “more noble” than the Thessalonians because they received the message eagerly and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul was teaching was true. That’s not blind acceptance or stubborn skepticism. It’s humble, careful searching, and it’s held up as the gold standard for how to receive any teaching, including this one.
In Athens, Paul finds a city absolutely packed with idols, and instead of getting angry, he gets strategic. Standing before the philosophers at the Areopagus, he points to an altar he noticed inscribed “to the unknown god” and uses it as his opening line: “What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you.” He quotes their own poets, explains that God doesn’t live in temples made by human hands, and that in Him “we live and move and have our being.” He calls everyone everywhere to repent, because God has fixed a day when He will judge the world through Jesus, whom He raised from the dead. Some sneer. Some want to hear more later. A few, including a council member named Dionysius and a woman named Damaris, believe right then.
- God’s Character: He Is Not Far From Any of Us. Paul tells the Athenians that in God “we live and move and have our being,” He’s closer than their own altars (Acts 17:27-28).
- God’s Desire: A Humble, Daily Search for Truth. The Bereans are praised specifically for examining Scripture every day to check whether what they heard was true (Acts 17:11).
- God’s Promise: A Fixed Day of Righteous Judgment. God has set a day when He will judge the world in righteousness through Jesus, proven by raising Him from the dead (Acts 17:31).
- Glimpse of Jesus: The Unknown God Made Known. Paul takes an altar built for ignorance and uses it to introduce the Athenians to the God who can actually be known, through Jesus (Acts 17:23).
The Heartbeat:
God is not far from anyone searching for Him, and He calls every nation, from synagogue crowds to philosophers on Mars Hill, to examine the truth and find it fully revealed in Jesus.
Heart Check:
- The Bereans examined Scripture daily to test what they heard, even from someone as trusted as Paul. Do you take time to check what you hear, even from respected teachers, against God’s actual Word?
- Paul met the Athenians where they were, using their own altar and their own poets as a bridge to the gospel. Who in your life needs you to find a bridge like that instead of just repeating truth at them?

Where are the notes?
Understanding Our Terminology
What are "Notes"? We use this word for three different types of study materials:
- Bible Journaling Pages: PDF copies of Kanoe and Holly's Bible pages with their personal journaling alongside Scripture. Kanoe's notes are available for the entire Bonus Content year and most of Phase One. On days Kanoe took a full Sabbath, Holly's notes cover those passages instead.
- Heart Check PDFs: Chapter summaries, conversational commentary, reflection questions, Deep Dive questions, and guided closing prayers.
- Heartbeat of God PDFs: Deep theological breakdowns exploring God's character, attributes, and desires through Scripture.
- Heart Work PDFs: Practical discipleship challenges and application exercises for personal growth or small group discussion.
One More Thing: All of this was created at significant cost, but is now available completely free thanks to our Heartkeeper community.

We hope you've enjoyed the Bonus Year with Kanoe and Phase One of Heart Dive 365.
If you're looking for Phase 2, aka The Heartbeat of God, or Phase 3 Heart Work PDFs, we're currently doing a third walk through the Bible at a more sustainable pace. We're currently taking a sabbatical, so we can honor both the season of life we're in and the depth these passages deserve.
Phase 2 and Phase 3 will make their way to the Hub as we complete them. This could take a few weeks or a few years, and we're okay with that. Good things take time.
