Day 325 Bible Study Acts 13-14

Day 325 Bible Study Acts 13-14

Welcome to Day 325! The Holy Spirit taps two men on the shoulder in the middle of a worship service and sends them out on the first official missionary journey in church history. Acts 13-14 takes us from a sorcerer struck blind to a crowd trying to worship Paul and Barnabas as gods, and shows us a gospel that just will not be stopped.

Heart Dive has partnered with the Manna app to make HD365 even easier to follow. Join the Heart Dive Circle through the player above, and you’ll immediately be prompted to join the complete HD365 reading plan. Once you join, you’ll have access to each day’s reading, audio, and Hub content all in one place. For the best HD365 experience, we recommend following the plan through Manna.

Acts 13-14: The First Missionary Journey

While the church at Antioch is worshiping and fasting, the Holy Spirit speaks clearly: “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” The church prays, lays hands on them, and sends them out, and just like that, the first missionary journey begins. On Cyprus, a sorcerer named Elymas tries to block their message, and Paul, filled with the Spirit, strikes him blind on the spot, a dramatic sign that the Spirit of God is not intimidated by counterfeit spiritual power. In Pisidian Antioch, Paul preaches a sweeping sermon connecting Israel’s whole history to Jesus, and the response is electric, Gentiles begging to hear more the following week, and when the whole city shows up, “as many as were appointed to eternal life believed.”

The journey doesn’t stay easy. Jealous opponents stir up persecution and run Paul and Barnabas out of town, so they move on to Iconium, where the same pattern repeats, real belief alongside real opposition. In Lystra, Paul heals a man who’s been lame from birth, and the crowd, completely misreading what just happened, decides Paul and Barnabas must be the Greek gods Hermes and Zeus in human form, and tries to offer sacrifices to them. The two missionaries tear their clothes in horror, insisting they’re just ordinary men pointing to the living God. Days later, the crowd’s mood flips entirely, and they stone Paul and leave him for dead outside the city. He gets up, walks back in, and keeps going, eventually looping back through every city they’d planted to strengthen the believers before heading home to report everything God had done.

  • God’s Character: He Appoints Ordinary People for Extraordinary Work. The Spirit specifically calls Barnabas and Saul out by name for the mission ahead of them (Acts 13:2).
  • God’s Desire: Eternal Life Offered to Everyone Appointed. Luke describes Gentile belief in terms of God’s sovereign appointment, as many as were appointed to eternal life believed (Acts 13:48).
  • God’s Promise: Opposition Will Not Derail the Mission. From sorcerers to stoning, nothing stops Paul and Barnabas from continuing to preach and strengthen the churches they plant (Acts 14:19-22).
  • Glimpse of Jesus: Forgiveness of Sins Available Through Him Alone. Paul’s sermon in Pisidian Antioch declares plainly that through Jesus, forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to all who believe (Acts 13:38-39).

The Heartbeat:

God sets apart ordinary people for extraordinary mission, and no sorcerer, stoning, or misdirected worship can derail the gospel He’s determined to spread.

Heart Check:

  • Paul got up and kept going after being stoned and left for dead. What’s a setback in your own life you need to get back up from instead of staying down?
  • The Spirit called out Barnabas and Saul by name for a specific mission while they were worshiping. Have you made space in your own life, through worship and prayer, to actually hear what God might be calling you toward?

Heart Dive 365 uses the same Bible reading plan across multiple years, but each year offers a different teaching style and pace. Choose the phase that fits where you are right now.

✨ One Hub. Everything You Need. Every Daily Blog Post includes all three phases on this single page—videos, audio, PDFs, study notes—so you never have to leave to find what you're looking for. (This comprehensive resource is free thanks to our Heartkeepers community.)

Where are the notes?

Understanding Our Terminology

What are "Notes"? We use this word for three different types of study materials:

  • Bible Journaling Pages: PDF copies of Kanoe and Holly's Bible pages with their personal journaling alongside Scripture. Kanoe's notes are available for the entire Bonus Content year and most of Phase One. On days Kanoe took a full Sabbath, Holly's notes cover those passages instead.
  • Heart Check PDFs: Chapter summaries, conversational commentary, reflection questions, Deep Dive questions, and guided closing prayers.
  • Heartbeat of God PDFs: Deep theological breakdowns exploring God's character, attributes, and desires through Scripture.
  • Heart Work PDFs: Practical discipleship challenges and application exercises for personal growth or small group discussion.

One More Thing: All of this was created at significant cost, but is now available completely free thanks to our Heartkeeper community.

Congratulations on making it this far with us!

We hope you've enjoyed the Bonus Year with Kanoe and Phase One of Heart Dive 365.

If you're looking for Phase 2, aka The Heartbeat of God, or Phase 3 Heart Work PDFs, we're currently doing a third walk through the Bible at a more sustainable pace. We're currently taking a sabbatical, so we can honor both the season of life we're in and the depth these passages deserve.

Phase 2 and Phase 3 will make their way to the Hub as we complete them. This could take a few weeks or a few years, and we're okay with that. Good things take time.
