Day 096 Judges 19-21
Welcome to Day 096. This is the darkest passage in Judges. A Levite and his concubine are traveling. They're treated with hospitality, but then something horrific happens.
The story is graphic and disturbing. It shows what happens when there's no central authority, no law, no order. "Everyone did what was right in his own eyes," the text repeats. And "right in his own eyes" led to atrocity.
Israel responds with civil war. The other tribes unite against Benjamin to pursue justice. It's violent and messy.
But it is clear that without God's order, without submission to His law, human nature tends toward evil. Chaos isn't freedom. It's destruction.
The Heartbeat: God establishes order and law because He knows what happens without them. His boundaries aren't restrictions; they're protection. When we reject His order, we create space for evil to flourish.
Heart-Check: Where in your life do you need to submit to God's order instead of doing "what's right in your own eyes"?
