Day 070 Deuteronomy 1-2
Welcome to Day 070. Moses begins his farewell speeches. He's reminding a new generation who were children or not even born during the wilderness years and have no idea what happened!
He points out that the journey from Horeb to Kadesh-Barnea should have taken eleven days. It took forty years.
Let's say that again - IT TOOK 40 YEARS!
Why? Unbelief and disobedience.
Moses recounts how God told them to go take the land, but fear got in the way. The people demanded that spies scout it first. Ten spies came back terrified. Two came back faithful. The people believed the fearful report.
Then they tried to go up on their own and WITHOUT God's permission, WITHOUT God's presence. And they were defeated.
Moses reminds them of the nations they passed through: Edom, Moab, and Ammon. God told them not to fight some of these nations—the land wasn't theirs to claim. But Israel was to fight others—the Amorites, King Sihon, and King Og. And they won every battle where God was with them.
God was establishing a pattern. Obey God, trust God, and you win. Disobey, doubt, and you lose.
The Heartbeat: God's faithfulness never changes. He was with Israel in the past, He's with them now, and He will be with them in the future. But we have to learn from the past and choose faith in the present.
Heart-Check: What lessons from your past is God asking you to remember and apply today?
