Day 046 Leviticus 8-10
Welcome to Day 046. Aaron and his sons are formally ordained as priests in a seven-day ceremony. They're washed, clothed in holy garments, anointed with oil, and set apart for sacred service.
But immediately after their ordination, something tragic happens. Aaron's sons, Nadab and Abihu, offer "unauthorized fire" before the Lord. The text doesn't explain exactly what they did wrong, but they approached God's presence carelessly and irreverently.
Fire comes from the Lord and consumes them. They die instantly.
It's shocking and seems harsh. But God's holiness is not casual. Approaching Him requires reverence and obedience. His presence is a privilege, not a right. Carelessness in His presence has consequences.
Aaron responds with silence. He doesn't cry out or protest. He accepts God's judgment.
The Heartbeat: God's holiness demands reverence. We can't approach Him casually or on our own terms. His presence is a sacred privilege that requires respect, preparation, and obedience. Reverence for God isn't fear. It's honoring His transcendence and power.
Heart-Check: How do you approach God? Is there carelessness in your worship or prayer life? What would it look like to approach His presence with greater reverence?
