Day 102 1 Samuel 15-17

Welcome to Day 102. Samuel gives Saul another chance. God commands Saul to destroy the Amalekites completely... everyone and everything (also known as a herem or "devoted to destruction," refers to total annihilation commanded by God in the Old Testament).

Saul does mostly obey. But he keeps the best animals and the king alive. He tells Samuel, "I kept them for a sacrifice to the Lord."

But God doesn't want the sacrifice. He wants obedience. "Obedience is better than sacrifice," Samuel tells Saul. "To obey is better than the fat of rams."

Then Samuel speaks the final word: "Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He has rejected you as king."

Saul's reign is over. God's Spirit leaves him. And Samuel anoints David, a young shepherd boy, as the future king.

Then the Philistines threaten again. Goliath, a giant over nine feet tall, challenges Israel. "Send someone to fight me," he roars. "Winner takes all."

Everyone is terrified. Everyone except David. When he hears Goliath, he's outraged. "Who is this uncircumcised Philistine?" he asks. "Does he think he can defy the God of Israel?"

David volunteers to fight. Everyone thinks he's crazy. He's just a kid. A shepherd. No armor. No training.

But David has something they don't: faith. "The Lord who saved me from the lion and the bear will save me from this Philistine," he says.

The Heartbeat: God chooses the unlikely. He sees beyond what others see. Saul's disobedience opened the door for David's rise. God's purposes can't be stopped by human failure. He always has a plan.

Heart-Check: Do you trust God's choice, even when it seems unlikely? Can you trust that God sees what others don't?

Before Heart Dive

Our Foundation: In 2023, Kanoe took the first dive. It began as a raw, real-time experimental Bible study in consistency; a commitment to walk through the Word chronologically and see what happened when we showed up for God every day.

This was where Heart Dive was birthed, not as a ministry but as a personal call to obedience. Kanoe didn't intend for it to catch fire and grow beyond her "junk journaling" of #NOTESandHUES.

Yet it was there that she found her rhythm, testing the waters of daily video commentary and discovering a community of "Heart Divers" hungry for more than a surface-level reading.

These early reflections may contain doctrinal or technical errors. We ask for your grace as you listen, and always encourage you to study the Word for yourself.

Phases 1 and 2 have filled your head with God's truth. Phase 3 is about filling your heart and hands. The Heart Work PDFs aren't just for reflection. They're invitations to transformation.


Now it's time to get real. Share your heart with others. Iron sharpens iron, and community accelerates growth. Phase 3 challenges you in three ways:

  • Personal Obedience (what is God asking you to change?),
  • Relational Grace (who needs your forgiveness or encouragement?)
  • Missional Movement (where is God asking you to step out in faith?).


This is faith in action—head knowledge becoming lived reality.
