Day 083 Joshua 5-8
Welcome to Day 083. Israel has crossed into the Promised Land. Now comes the first city: Jericho. It's fortified. The walls are high. The people are terrified.
And God gives Joshua instructions that make absolutely no military sense: march around the city once a day for six days. On the seventh day, march around seven times. Have the priests blow trumpets. And the walls will fall.
It's ridiculous. It's illogical. But Joshua does it. The people do it. They trust God even though it doesn't make sense.
On the seventh day, the seventh time around, the priests blow the trumpets. And the walls collapse. Not because of Israel's strength or strategy. Because of God's power.
But then something goes wrong. Israel defeats Jericho completely, but they're supposed to destroy everything, every living thing, every possession, called HEREM. But a man named Achan kept some treasure for himself.
Because of that one act of disobedience, Israel's next battle goes badly. They're defeated. And Joshua realizes: someone broke faith with God. The whole nation suffers because of one person's sin.
When they find Achan and deal with it, they go back to battle and win. The lesson is clear: obedience matters. One person's rebellion affects everyone.
The Heartbeat: God's methods often don't make sense to us, but they work because God is at work. Our obedience matters—not just for us, but for the whole community. Sin is never private; it always has ripple effects.
Heart-Check: Is there anywhere you're holding onto something God is asking you to release? How might your holding on be affecting others?
