Day 079 Deuteronomy 28-29
Welcome to Day 079. This is a heavy chapter. Moses spells out exactly what happens if Israel obeys God and exactly what happens if they don't.
Obedience of God's chosen people will bring rain in the right season, abundant harvests, security, victory over enemies, and God's presence with them. Everything flourishes.
Disobedience will bring disease, famine, defeat, exile, and destruction. Everything falls apart.
It might sound harsh, but Moses is being honest. When you align yourself with God, life works. When you rebel against Him, life doesn't work. It's not an arbitrary punishment; it's cause and effect.
Then Moses does something important. He reminds them that even in the midst of the curses, God won't completely destroy them. Even when they're scattered and facing judgment, God's covenant with them doesn't end. He will bring them back.
This isn't a God who abandons His people when they fail. It's a God who disciplines them, but keeps them.
The Heartbeat: God is both just and merciful. He doesn't ignore disobedience, but He also doesn't abandon His people. Our choices have consequences, but His love isn't conditional on our perfection.
Heart-Check: Where do you see the consequences of your choices playing out in your life right now?
