Day 077 Deuteronomy 21-23
Welcome to Day 077. These chapters might seem a little random with laws about property, marriage, and how to treat people. But they all point to one thing!
God cares about protecting vulnerable people.
There are laws about caring for lost animals, treating workers fairly, and protecting widows and orphans. There's instruction about marriage and how to treat a wife. Laws about how to handle disputes between people. Even laws about how to care for enemies' animals if they've fallen.
Every single law reflects that you're responsible for how you treat people. Your strength gives you responsibility, not the right to dominate.
There's also a law about capital punishment. It requires two or more witnesses so that you can't condemn someone on hearsay or emotion. Justice requires evidence. This protects innocent people from being falsely accused.
The Heartbeat: God's laws reflect His heart to protect the weak and hold the powerful accountable. Compassion isn't separate from justice because God has woven it through. How you treat others matters deeply to God.
Heart-Check: Who in your life is vulnerable? What's one way you could protect or care for them this week?
