Day 067 Numbers 31-32
Welcome to Day 067. God commands Moses to go to war against Midian before he dies. Israel sends 12,000 warriors and defeats them completely. Every Midianite male is killed, including Balaam, the false prophet.
The soldiers return with plunder like animals, gold, silver, everything. But they need purification. Those who killed anyone must stay outside the camp, wash, and be declared clean. Even the spoils of war must be purified with water and fire. Moses divides the plunder equally between those who fought and those who stayed behind. Everyone gets a share of the blessing.
But then something happens that shows a lack of faith. The tribes of Reuben and Gad request to settle east of the Jordan. "Look," they say, "this land is good for our livestock. Can we just stay here instead of crossing over?"
Moses is alarmed. He reminds them that if they settle short of the promise, they're repeating what the previous generation did and stopping short of God's full blessing.
They agree to compromise their families and livestock by staying east of the Jordan, but their fighting men will cross over and help conquer the rest of Canaan. Then they can return to their families. Moses agrees, but with a condition that they must follow through. If they don't, they forfeit the land.
The Heartbeat: God purifies us so we can fully possess what He's given. Settling for "good enough" outside the promise is still stopping short of God's best. Full blessing requires full obedience and full commitment.
Heart-Check: Where are you settling for less than God's promise? What would it take to go all in?
