Day 064 Numbers 23-25
Welcome to Day 064. Balak keeps trying different strategies to get Balaam to curse Israel. He moves to different locations, builds altars, and makes offerings. Each time, Balaam speaks blessings instead of curses.
By the third oracle, Balaam stops even seeking divination. He just turns and speaks what God puts in his mouth. He describes Israel as a prosperous nation, blessed and protected, with a king (the Messiah) coming from their line.
But then something shifts. Israel's greatest threat doesn't come from outside enemies. It comes from within.
Moabite women seduce the Israelite men and draw them into worshiping Baal and other false gods. It starts subtly, with just some relationships and some compromises. But it spreads like poison.
God commands judgment. The leaders must be held accountable. But when a man named Zimri brazenly sins with a Midianite woman right in front of everyone, Phinehas, the high priest's son, must take action. He spears both of them!
It's violent and shocking. But it stops the plague. Phinehas's decisive stand for righteousness saves the nation.
The Heartbeat: God protects His people from external curses, but internal compromise is more dangerous. What we tolerate grows. What we allow to linger at the door destroys us. Righteousness sometimes requires bold, immediate action.
Heart-Check: Is there anything (a compromise, a sin, a pattern) that you're tolerating that needs to be speared?
